“Oh, you caught one!” It was early summer in the park, and I happened to be walking past the pond. I couldn’t help but exclaim just as the angler was reeling in his line. He turned around, looking startled for a moment, but when I asked, “Is that a crucian carp?” he nodded happily. After that, I sat down next to him for a while, and we watched the float move together. The silence felt pleasant. I felt a little proud when he complimented my skill in releasing the fish I’d caught. To me, who had just happened to be passing by, the angler smiled and said, “I hope we meet again.” It was only a brief interaction of a few minutes. But that kindness has stayed with me ever since.
